The Transportation Set is easily incorporated into universal elementary units covering transportation as it relates to communities, technological advances, societal differences and travel to the outer limits. It's a tool with which teachers can explore these themes through hands-on, open-ended, cooperative methods. Students can actually build the vehicles they are learning about and compare them to the real thing. K'NEX battery and spring power motors are included to bring additional dimensions to the study of transportation.

Designed for grades K to 5, the Set includes 44 models of varying complexity on K'NEX print Activity Cards plus 12 BONUS nonbuildable transportation concepts to encourage creativity and experimentation. Each card provides background information on the vehicle's origin, modifications, uses, purposes, form and function. This information provides a springboard for students to continue their study of the vehicles through extension challenges provided in the Educator's Idea and Challenge Guide.

The guide is divided into four sections--one for land, air, sea and space travel. This allows each to function as a stand alone unit, be plugged into a corresponding topic or unit--such as space, explores, westward expansion, and more. It can also be combined as a complete transportation unit. The Educator's Guide and K'NEXprintActivity Cards contain information which encourages students to compare and contrast vehicles (like a submarine and a blimp) and alter them to meet certain specifications, include safety features, and create futuristic vehicles that will meet travel needs in the new millennium.
